Notability Notion

Notion is an all-in-one workspace for all your needs including notes, tasks, organization, and more. It’s one of my favorite productivity tools for both my educational and personal needs. In this post I’m going to be going over how I organize my college classes and how you can too! Stay till the end for a free template you can download!

. Notion Labs Inc, a startup based in San Francisco, was founded in 2013. The founders declined to meet venture capitalists or discuss acquiring a higher valuation. The app launched in March 2016 for web browsers and OS X, May 2017 for Microsoft Windows, and June 2017 for iOS. In March 2018, Notion 2.0 was released. It received praise on Product Hunt as #1 Product of the Month,. Notion is a collaboration platform with modified markdown support that integrates kanban boards, tasks, wikis, and databases. The company claims it is an all-in-one workspace for note-taking, knowledge and data management, and project and task management.

Main Page

Below is an image of the main page.

On the left you can see the basic layout of how the organization looks. First, at the top I have the current semester, for example Fall 2020. This page is broken down into the Master Assignments and all my classes (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, & Class 4).

Master Assignments

The master assignments page below allows you to have a list of all assignments, lectures, quizzes, and exams from all class including the number of total repetitions completed in one place.

This page contains a table with the following columns:

Done: This column is simply used as a checklist to mark whether an assignment has been completed or not.

DueDate: Allows you to mark single date or a range of dates for when an assignment is due.

Name: Here you can write the name of the assignment, quiz, task, etc.

Type: This column has a multi-select feature allowing you to distinguish what type of assignment you have such as Quiz, Lecture, HW, Task, and Exam. I also love being able to differentiate them with color as it adds to the aesthetic and simplicity of Notion.

Class: Another multi-select feature that’s customizable with colors, but for class name this time.

TotalRepetitions: This column allows you to keep track of how many spaced repetition sessions you’ve done to prepare for a certain assignment. For example, for Exam 1 I might have 3 revisions scheduled, so as I get through them I would simply type the amount completed in that column for the “Exam 1” row.
Personally, I implement spaced repetition into my studying all the time so if you use this method as well then this column is perfect. However, if you don’t I highly recommend you read my blog post on spaced repetition, but if you’re still not planning on using this method you can simply delete that column entirely.

Class 1

Moving onto the next section, an image of how the “Class 1” page looks is below.

This page contains several subpages including Table of Lectures / Notes, Syllabus, Lecture Tests & Assignments, & Repetitions. Pl sql syntax cheat sheet.

Table of Lectures / Notes

Notability Notion Tutorial

This page is useful if you’d like to keep all your Notes & Lectures in one place. The 1 in front of this page title is simply used to distinguish each class.

This page contains a table with the following columns:

Reviewed: This column serves as a checklist to mark whether or not I have reviewed the following topic at least once.

Name: Here you can write down your lecture / note title. This is also where you’ll actually be storing your notes. You do this by hovering over the lecture title as seen in the image below.

When you click this button it will open up to a sub-page (seen in the image below) in which you can store all your notes by either typing them out directly onto the page or as images from another document.

Personally, I use Notability on my iPad Pro to take notes most of the time, so if I want to organize them on Notion I’ll just turn each one into a compilation of images and drag those images onto this page.

Syllabus

This page, seen in the image below, is simply used to capture images of your Syllabus and drag them onto this page for easy access.

There is also a list at the top that allows you to enter any important info you may need quite often so you don’t have to go searching through the Syllabus every time. Usually I include office & tutoring hours in this section.

Class Tests & Assignments

This page is similar to the “Master Assignments” page we spoke about above, but this time the assignments are specifically for that one class it is under. In this case, these assignments & tests are just those from Class 1.

This page contains a table with the following columns:

Done: This column is simply used as a checklist to mark whether an assignment has been completed or not.

DueDate: Allows you to mark single date or a range of dates for when an assignment is due.

Name: Here you can write the name of the assignment, quiz, and/or task specifically for that class.

Type: This column has a multi-select feature allowing you to distinguish what type of assignment you have such as Quiz, Lecture, HW, Task, and Exam, which is the same as the previous pages we’ve seen.

Proof of Submission: Personally, I like to take screenshots whenever I submit an assignment just in case something goes wrong with my computer or internet and I have a way of showing that I did submit it at a specific time. This column allows you to attach that screenshot file next to the assignment it’s for.

Proof of Grade: Similar to the previous column, I take a picture whenever I get a grade back on an assignment/exam. This column allows you to attach that image file next to the assignment it relates to.

Grade: In this column I simply write out which grade I got as seen in the “Proof of Grade” image just so I don’t have to open up the image file every time I want to see my grade. This also allows me to scan through the grades every time I open up this page and get a general understanding of how I’m doing in the class.

Class Repetitions

This page allows me to keep track of how many repetitions I’ve done for each topic covered in one specific class.

This page contains a table with the following columns:

Topic Name: Here you can write the name of the topic you’re reviewing.

Notability Notions

Rep 1 – 4: These 4 columns allow room to type in the date of your 4 repetitions for that specific topic. I usually only end up going to Rep 3 maximum, but in some cases I’ll have room for a 4th. Check out my blog post on Spaced Repetition for a better understanding of how you can make this page your own.

Robert Anthony Smith, known as Big Bert, is an American record producer, songwriter and musician. He made a break in the industry when Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins consulted him to join his Darkchild collective in the late 1990s. He went on to co-produce alongside Jerkins on tracks for bands like B2K and the Spice Girls, prior to contributing to projects by Dave Hollister, Toni Braxton, and Kelly Rowland in the early to mid-2000s.

During the production of Brandy's Full Moon album, he became romantically involved with the singer. The couple began a relationship in mid-2001 but announced it in February 2002, when Norwood revealed that she was expecting a child. A year after the birth of their daughter Sy'rai Iman Smith (June 16 2002), the couple announced their separation on MTV reality series Special Delivery.[1] In 2004 Smith said the pair never legally wed but portrayed the notion of nuptials to preserve Norwood's public image.[2] Smith is a music publishing executive and lives in Florida with his family. He and his wife Xochitl Jacques-Smith work together and have five children, Rain, Soleil, Sade, Robert (Tico) and Judah.
